Dave Steele Back In Winners Circle
By Rick Anges

The Tampa Bay Area Racing Association Winged Sprints
returned for their fifth of seven scheduled races for
2007 with a field of twenty five of the methenol
burning, crowd pleasing machines.

Dave Steele and crew in Winners Circle

Points leader Troy DeCaire would be the winner in the
first of three heat races. Second went to Larry J.
Brazil Jr.,third was Brian Gingras, fourth Tommy
Nichols and fifth Stan Butler.

Heat race number two winner was Keith Butler.
Following him across the stripe was “Superman” Dave
Steele. Third went to Brian Maddox, fourth was Gary
Gimmler and fifth was Danny Martin Jr.

The final heat before the feature saw Wendy Mathis
with a solid run take the win, Dude Teate was in the
second spot, third D.J.Hoelzle, fourth Shane Butler
and fifth Micheal Smith.

Wendy Mathis who started on the front row built up a
good lead early in the thirty lap feature. Steele who
started eleventh in the field methodically made his
way through the pack and with a sling shot moved
roared by Mathis to take over the top spot.

Troy DeCaire who is having a great season made his way
to the second spot. Lapped traffic would be his
undoing though as he was unable to clear the 14 car of
Shane Butler allowing Steele to go unchallenged an
build up a big lead.

When the checkers fell Steele was just inches from
lapping the fifth place car. “First off I have to
thank my crew, we have been struggling a little bit
this year but the really stepped up to give me a great
car” said Steele in the winners circle.

DeCaire would take the second spot, third was Brian
Gingras, fourth went to Wendy Mathis and fifth Keith
Butler.
